Top Image
“Surrealist Dinner”
Inspired, of course, by a Magritte painting: “The Magician”, 1952. I think the landscape background make the image more striking and more surreal.
Other Pictures
“Appreciating Gerhard Richter The World’s Greatest Living Artist”
OK, Richter, especially the work in this room, is some of the less accessible work in the Tate Modern. ArtFund does rank him No. 1 for living artists.
“Frozen Grass Diptych”
I like the harmony of colours and think it works well as a diptych.
“Long Shadow of Mayfair”
This has done well in competitions and FIAP salons. The repeating character, mirrored in the “Peaky Blinders” poster, appeals.
“Outside Claridges”
Shot shortly after the Long Shadow of Mayfair above. More complicated image, but I like the man crossing the road with the exhaust from the big cars leaving the hotel in the background.
“El Mercat – Andorra”
Intended in be in the style of Edward Hopper’s 1942 “Nighthawks”. Although this was shot at dawn and emotes a start of day feeling rather then the loneliness of the Hopper painting.
“Surrealist Dream Night and Day”
Another attempt to create a Magritte “Empire of Light” inspired image where a daytime sky is imposed on a nighttime scene.
“Magritte at Lambourne”
I have been planning this image for a while, taking photos of the golf club on several occasions after playing.
(Based on Magritte’s 1953 Golconda – this is my 10th version of this image).
“Common Buzzard”
The title is a slight play on names as the man hardly looks “common”.
“Mysteries of the Horizon”
Based on the Magritte painting of the same name.
Intentionally dark, sinister and dysphoric.

Long Term Projects & Progress Against Goals
Understanding of Art
Introduction to the concept of the sublime, most notably on the 19th December 2022. This led to my creation of the post “Revised Thoughts on Art”.
My post: “Last Paintings of Modern Artists” is something I have been thinking about for a while.
