Style, Philosophy and Aspirations
As of starting this 10,000 hour project, I don’t really have a style and am keen to learn “a little bit of everything.” In my “At Zero Hours” post, I define a table of genres of photography that I’m most interested in and my level of experience in each. My hope is that as I am developing photographic expertise through 10,000 hours deliberate practice, this table will correspondingly develop.
Philosophically, I believe that photography as an art form should convey an emotional message (See my “What is Art?” post); and to be interesting, a photograph should show the viewer something they have never seen before.
My aspiration is to be a fine art photographer. That is a photographer whose work is printed and hung on someone’s wall. To be a successful fine art photographer, I believe one has to have a distinctive style, so that one’s work is recognisable, and one has to be an expert in a particular genre of photography.
